What is TimeToy3xtreme?

TimeToy3xtreme is the latest incarnation of the monstrously popular TimeToy time manipulation software for Macintosh computers.

TimeToy3xtreme lets you:
• add neat time-stretching effects to your audio files: stretch a file to 10000% its original length without changing pitch to create fascinating new sounds
• create odd tempo changes in a soundfile (with a speech sample, you can make the speaker sound drunk :-)
• musicians: slow down that tricky musical excerpt to find out exactly what notes are being played
• make detailed tempo changes to an audio recording, for example to tighten up a musician's performance, while maintaining excellent sound quality

This new version was rebuilt from the ground up so that the latest time manipulation algorithms could be implemented. Users now have a choice between an improved Granular mode and the new Spectral mode, which offers much higher sound quality at low stretch ratios. (Listen to the differences here.) The interface has also been greatly improved, giving the user highly detailed control over the time stretching envelope.

What's new in this version?

• brand new interface: the envelope is now drawn overtop of the waveform. This allows for several new features which were not possible in earlier versions, such as:
   - more detailed control over the envelope (X axis: screen width, Y axis: ±1% per pixel)
   - ability to zoom in on the waveform up to 200%
   - see the exact mouse position in terms of millisecond and playback speed (percentage) units.

• new Spectral algorithm preserves the sound quality of your original sound - no more "phasing" effects when using minimal speed changes.
   - choose between Granular mode for extreme stretching effects or Spectral mode for situations where maximum sound quality is essential (such as correcting a musician's performance tempo).

• full support for stereo soundfiles (files are no longer converted to mono when loaded)

• transposition adjustment slider, with options for fine or coarse control, lets you change the pitch of your sound up to ±12 semitones without affecting playback speed.
   - perfect for musicians learning parts by ear - no need to retune your instrument!

• new playback speed percentage to beats per minute conversion utility window

• additional keyboard shortcuts for transport controls.

• more help texts included in the interface, so that you don't need to refer back to the Instructions text file as often.

• scrubbing across waveform with the mouse sets the play position, also during playback

• added Normalize function for boosting levels of quiet soundfiles

System Requirements

TimeToy3xtreme requires a quick G4 or Intel processor (800MHz or faster), at least 256MB memory and MacOSX 10.3 or later with Quicktime 6.5 or later installed. More memory and a fast video card will increase performance.
